The Controversial Approach to Insurance Marketing That Could Get Us Fired (Or Make Us Famous)

If we were running the show at an insurance marketing department, we’d probably be out of a job by now. Why? Because we believe that traditional advertising can be a yawn and capturing the attention of potential clients is a real challenge.

Let’s face it, advertising insurance typically involves a lot of sameness—promises of safety and security that fail to stand out in a crowded marketplace. So, how would we change the game? By sprinkling a bit of humour into the mix, maybe even at the risk of ruffling some feathers.

Why Humour?

Humour breathes life into otherwise dry topics. In the domain of insurance, where the norm is to play on fears and worst-case scenarios, adding humour can create a refreshing change. It makes the messaging more enjoyable and relatable, disrupting the monotony with something unexpected. We’re convinced that if you’re smiling, you’re engaging—and engagement is key in marketing.

Admittedly, humor is a double-edged sword. It’s subjective, and while it can delight many, it might not sit well with everyone. That’s the risk of stepping away from the conventional. Yet, no impactful marketing campaign was ever born from playing it safe. Our approach might not win everyone over, but it will certainly spark conversation and thought—essential elements of effective advertising.

So how would we do it? Let’s give it a try:
