The world woke up to the devastating news that 31-year-old Liam Payne, former member of the global sensation One Direction, has tragically died after falling from a third-story balcony in Buenos Aires.
Authorities reported finding Payne’s body after responding to an emergency call in the affluent Palermo district on Wednesday. Payne had achieved international stardom with One Direction, which was formed on the “X Factor” TV series in 2010, alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik.
Earlier in the month, Payne was seen at a concert in Argentina performed by Niall Horan, his former bandmate. Initially, local police were allegedly called to the scene following reports of a disturbance involving an individual believed to be intoxicated.
Upon their arrival, officers were informed of a loud noise in an inner courtyard, where they subsequently found Payne’s body. A police inquiry into the incident is underway.
Alberto Crescenti, the director of emergency medical services, communicated to the press that Payne had sustained severe injuries and that an autopsy would be conducted to determine the precise cause of death. Crescenti refrained from commenting on the specifics of how Payne fell.
The British Foreign Office has acknowledged the incident, confirming that they are coordinating with Argentinian officials concerning the death of a British citizen. No additional information has been released at this time.
Hours before the tragic event, Payne had updated his social media, expressing enjoyment of the day in Argentina.
