Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation – Making an Impact on Mental Health

In the heart of South Africa, a unique charity is making waves in the field of mental health. The Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation, established in 2017 by psychiatrist Professor Renata Schoeman and Nic de Beer, has carved out a niche in providing essential services to children facing mental health challenges, particularly Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). What began as a passion project during a challenging three-day trail run has evolved into the country’s first-ever initiative offering free ADHD screening and early intervention services.

Recognizing a significant gap in mental health support for children, especially in underserved communities, Schoeman and de Beer launched the foundation with a clear mission: to offer comprehensive screening that identifies ADHD, anxiety, depression, and sensory impairments. Operating from their center in Parow, Western Cape, and extending their reach to underprivileged schools and communities, the foundation leverages a network of volunteers, including optometrists, audiologists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists. Their collaborative efforts enable them to provide these critical services free of charge, making a substantial impact where it’s needed most. ADHD is the most common childhood psychiatric disorder, affecting nearly 5% of children.

Looking ahead, the Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation is gearing up for an exquisite event that promises to blend high culture with high impact. Scheduled for November 2nd at the prestigious Nasdaq in Cape Town, the foundation will host it’s annual black tie art auction. This year, twenty stunning paintings will be on display, with each piece auctioned to support the ongoing mission of the foundation. This gala is not just an opportunity to acquire original artwork but a chance to contribute directly to a cause that changes lives daily.

This event is crucial not only for the funds it will raise but also for the awareness it will generate about the pressing need for accessible mental health services for children. As readers and supporters of Controversial View, you are uniquely positioned to help amplify this message. Whether you are drawn to the beauty of art or driven by the mission to improve mental health awareness, your participation can lead to real change.

Mark your calendars for November 2nd and prepare to be part of an evening where glamour meets benevolence, all in support of Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation’s noble cause. For more details on how you can be involved, whether by attending the event, bidding on a piece, or making a donation, please visit the foundation’s website or contact their event coordinator art@gb4adhd.co.za – https://gb4adhd.co.za/get-involved/

Join them in supporting this initiative that not only highlights the challenges but actively works towards solutions in child mental health. Your involvement could be the key to unlocking a child’s potential and paving the way for a healthier future.
